The Minister of Justice, Helana Kida, wants to hold accountable the police officers who fatally shot citizens taking part in protests against the results of the local elections.
She said that she was closely monitoring the protest marches against the results of the sixth local elections and that no one is above the law. Helana Kida said that the people who have been identified must be held accountable, stressing, however, that she has not yet had access to the files.
"The individuals identified must be held accountable. What I can't answer is where the proceedings stand with these people who are involved in these acts. I don't have access to the files," explained Kida, quoted by RFI.
Even so, the minister did not say how many people died in the demonstrations. The Mozambican government speaks of two deaths, while civil society estimates at least six fatalities.
