We are pioneers in the installation of the Banknote Neutralization System

Somos pioneiros na instalação do Sistema de Neutralização de Notas

Absa Bank Mozambique is a pioneer in terms of electronic banking security, implementing intelligent ATM security systems.

As of November 7, the bank's ATMs will have an intelligent system that renders banknotes unusable through the use of a permanent, indelible, traceable and denouncing ink, whenever a specific intrusion event occurs - the banknotes become partially inked, covering at least 20% of the surface, and should not be accepted as a form of payment and/or deposited at the counters/agents.

In recent years, our country has seen two successful explosions and robberies at ATMs belonging to other banks, as well as two failed attempts, one of which took place at an Absa ATM.

According to Denise Cruz, Channel Manager at Absa Bank: "We decided to implement yet another security and deterrence mechanism by installing the banknote neutralization system in ATMs. This system aims to reduce the risk of theft and the circulation of illegal money, as well as contributing to the ongoing adoption of policies to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

In Mozambique, the management of electronic means of payment is regulated by the Bank of Mozambique, and it is necessary for all financial institutions to ensure that their security systems are robust in order to provide greater comfort and security for customers. At this stage, we are proud to be pioneers in introducing this system."
