A group of Chinese investors plans to build two new terminals at the port of Beira, in Sofala province, to increase the capacity for handling goods, reports Rádio Moçambique.
The new terminals could be built on the port's Quays Eleven and Thirteen, and the project for their implementation is already in the possession of the Mozambican authorities.
It should be noted that the investors have already been to Sofala and found that the current capacity of the port of Beira is under pressure.
According to RM, the group of investors represents Chinese and multinational companies that lead the African infrastructure construction market.
On a visit to China, Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane met with investors and heard a request from the chairman of the Tsingshan Holding Group, Xiang Guangda, to speed up the analysis of the project.
The Mozambican government official assured the Chinese investors that the Mozambican counterpart is working out the final details so that the port's increased capacity can go ahead.
The Prime Minister's visit to the People's Republic of China ends this Monday.
