Is this a resurgence of the "old" problem? Resident doctors at Maputo Central Hospital are threatening to stop working overtime from November 1st due to lack of pay.
In a letter to the Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), the doctors of that health unit say they have not been paid for services rendered outside normal working hours, as well as on public holidays and weekends, for nine months.
Doctors also complain of physical and psychological strain, as well as the cost of traveling to carry out these activities.
The doctors also say in the letter that they even met twice in order to find a solution, but it wasn't possible.
"It was unanimously decided to declare the unavailability of doctors for activities outside normal working hours, on holidays and weekends (rounds, emergencies and other relevant activities in this period) from zero hours on November 1, 2023."
However, HCM's management says it is seeking solutions from the authorities responsible for providing the amount of its remuneration.
"We've actually received a letter from the doctors, this is a problem that hasn't come up since today and has been discussed. "It's not a hospital issue, it's an issue that's being discussed, so there's no solution yet. You'll know when we have a result," said Mouzinho Saíde, director of the HCM, quoted by the newspaper O País.
The HCM recognizes the damage that the stoppage could cause to the hospital's operation and says it is looking for internal solutions.
