PRM esclarece reboque a Manuel de Araújo

The provincial command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Zambézia says that Renamo's front-runner, Manuel de Araújo, was disturbing the normal voting process. The PRM confirms that it fired tear gas at Guruè to restore order and denies that there were any deaths.

The PRM says that the frontrunner was disrupting the normal course of voting at polling stations in Campo Primeiro de Maio, aka Benfica, and Coalane elementary school.

According to the PRM, the front-runner allegedly tried to disrupt order in the warehouses of the STAE district office.

Faced with the facts, the police took Manuel de Araújo to the first police station in order to clarify the contours of the case and, according to spokesman Miguel Caetano, the frontrunner has not been arrested.

That said, the police added, the case was submitted to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further investigation.

At the same press conference, Miguel Caetano confirmed that tear gas had been fired in Guruè to restore order and tranquillity. The PRM spokesman in Zambézia says that there was only one injured person who was taken to hospital and denies that there were any deaths.

Regarding the balance of voting day, the PRM says that the process went smoothly, despite five electoral offenses that resulted in the same number of arrests. (O Pais)
