This Monday, the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) considered the electoral campaign underway for the October 11 local elections to be peaceful, calling on the corporation's officers to remain committed to ensuring public order and security.

"We are happy with the political parties and the political party activists," because they have acted in such a way that "there is no violence in this campaign," said the commander-general of the PRM, Bernardino Rafael.

Rafael was speaking during a meeting with officers from the corporation in Niassa province, in the north of the country.

The general commander of the PRM urged police officers to remain committed to ensuring order and security, acting impartially and impartially.

"We are here to serve all the parties faithfully, without choosing [party preferences]. We will monitor [the electoral process] to protect our people," emphasized Bernardino Rafael, quoted by Lusa.

More than 11,500 candidates from 11 political parties, three coalitions of parties and eight citizens' groups are involved in the election campaign for the sixth Mozambican local elections on October 11.

Around 8.7 million voters are registered, below the initial projection of 9.8 million voters, according to previous data from the National Electoral Commission.

Voters will choose 65 new mayors on October 11, including in 12 new municipalities, which join 53 existing ones.

In the 2018 municipal elections, Frelimo won in 44 of the 53 municipalities and the opposition in just nine - Renamo in eight and MDM in one.
