The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) is rehabilitating more than 2,500 hectares of mined areas in the Manica district for agricultural production, in order to benefit local farmers.
According to Rádio Moçambique (RM), the activity will involve around 3,300 farmers, with each family receiving one hectare of land for cultivation.
Previously, these families were engaged in artisanal mining, but they became farmers after the exploitation of mineral resources ceased.
Today, farmers are already growing corn and cabbage in an area that used to be exploited by cynics.
According to RM, which cites a government source, work is underway to return the land to the families.
