EDM considers entering hydrogen-based energy production

The company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is looking into entering the production of hydrogen-based energy in the country. According to the president of the state-owned electricity company, Gildo Marcelino, this resource has a future in Mozambique.

"We are doing some studies" on the feasibility of using hydrogen to produce energy, said Marcelino, quoted by Lusa, adding that this source "has a future" because it is renewable and is considered non-polluting.

However, the CEO added that due to the huge costs that will be required, EDM will only be able to enter the business through partnerships. In this sense, "on the energy production side, we favor public-private partnerships, because these are huge investments.

In July, the British company Jearrard Energy Resources announced plans to build a 12 gigawatt solar-hydrogen plant in Mozambique.
