The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) arrested two individuals in the district of Molumbo, Zambezia, who were transporting the body of a minor, already headless, for unknown purposes.
The accused were intercepted by the PRM on their way to Niassa province, where they were supposedly going to carry out traditional treatments, according to a spokesman for the PRM Provincial Command, Sidner Lonzo, quoted by the newspaper Radio Mozambique.
The individuals allegedly exhumed the minor's body three days after his burial. They cut off the head and left it next to the grave and transported the other part.
"The police intercepted two individuals who were going to Niassa province. They searched their belongings. They were carrying the body of a menhir that had lost its life and had been buried somewhere. The body found in their possession did not have a head on it," he said.
The PRM is calling on the community to be more attentive to any signs of strange movements, and also for good sense on the part of the healers.
"The initial indication was that it was for obscure purposes. That's why we urgently need to intensify our police-community liaison meetings with the healers as well, about the need to appeal to the common sense of these individuals who, at some point, end up using these methods to carry out their work"
