The government has decided to almost halve the license fees for tuna fishing by foreign fleets, according to the tables that came into force at the end of July and were consulted by Lusa.

This is ministerial decree no. 100/2023, which updates the tuna fishing license fees applicable to the national fleet with a base port abroad and the foreign fleet with a base port abroad operating in Mozambique's jurisdictional waters.

According to the source, in the decree issued by the ministries of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries and the Economy and Finance, the annual fees to be paid by each foreign fleet fishing vessel in the tuna fishery will be cut for all gears.

The fees for purse seine fishing by vessels with a national port fell by 55%, to 4.038 million meticais, compared to the previous figure, and for vessels with a foreign port they fell by 41%, to seven million meticais.

In longline fishing, vessels from foreign fleets with a national port fell by 77% to 1.489 million meticais and those from foreign ports fell by 62.5% to 3.150 million meticais. (Source: Lusa)
