On Friday, the Mozambican senior women's basketball team lost by just two points (55-53) to Cameroon in the first match of Group "B".
Mozambique's opening game was played in the evening at the BK Arena in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, where the 26th edition of the African Nations Championship, Afrobasket-2023, runs until August 6.
Overall, Mozambique's national team had a tough time against Cameroon and were always behind on the scoreboard. The national team lost the first two periods by 16-12 and 16-14, going into the break with a six-point deficit (32-26). However, in the second half, they did well until the final buzzer. They won the third period 14-11 and the last 13-12.
But, in truth, the national team's defeat was painful and came just eight seconds from the end of the game, when a triple converted by Monique Makani cancelled out a 53-52 lead.
