The amount of cotton represents an increase of more than four hundred tons compared to last year, when the region produced five thousand four hundred and forty-eight tons, according to an official source.
The head of the agriculture and fisheries department at the district service for economic activities in Monapo, Moisés Camoto, explained that the so-called "white gold" is produced with the involvement of more than 16,000 producers.
The source noted that Monapo has six cotton production units with a total of one hundred and forty-two markets mapped out for this campaign.
The increase in production comes at a time when producers of this crop in Monapo and throughout the province of Nampula were abandoning their production in favor of food production in the cotton fields.
And in recent years, cotton companies and the government have been encouraging peasant families to invest in the production of this cash crop.
