The Center for Public Integrity (CIP) has submitted a complaint against the state to the Attorney General's Office (PGR) over police violence against peaceful marches on Saturday.
The organization is also calling for criminal proceedings against the unidentified agents who committed abuses and violated the right to freedom of demonstration and assembly.
CIP also believes that the police officers of the Republic of Mozambique and the state "should be held civilly responsible for the damage caused".
In the same submission, the Center for Public Integrity (CIP) expressed its desire to be an assistant in the case.
The aggressive and disproportionate actions of the police took place, in particular, in the cities of Maputo, Xai-Xai, Beira and Nampula, with indiscriminate firing of tear gas grenades, rubber bullets and physical torture against demonstrators duly "authorized" by the municipalities.
"In addition to the action against the demonstrators, the police fired tear gas grenades indiscriminately, hitting citizens walking along the various arteries of the cities, causing injuries ranging from serious to minor," the organization said.
The officers "were supposed to be protecting the demonstrators", he adds.
As for the "direct victims of police violence", the CIP argues that the state must assume "its responsibilities, providing medical and medication assistance and due compensation, under the terms of the law".
