The Commander General of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Bernardino Rafael, has decided to send some 16,000 newly trained officers for retraining less than two months (48 days) ago.
The measure, according to Letter from MozambiqueThe report, which quotes an instruction from Bernardino Rafael, follows a meeting held on June 15. The measure aims to improve the tactical and operational knowledge of the officers.
The trainees are due to start their retraining activities as early as next Monday (17th), which should last 15 days. They will be divided into five groups of 40 and the classes will last 3 hours, from 8am to 11am.
The retraining will take place in all police sub-units and should cover all newly-graduated PRM officers.
The refresher course will cover all the contents of police training. The new members of the PRM have serious gaps in their training, with some not even knowing how to handle a firearm and others not even having visited a shooting range.
The 43rd Basic Course of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique was one of the shortest in recent years, lasting almost four months, compared to the usual six to eight months. It was also the course with the largest number of trainees in the country's history (surpassing that of 2022, which had 11,000 young men), and was held simultaneously at the Practical School in Matalane and at the Special Operations Unit Training School and Makandzene Reserve, in Manhiça.
