Cleaning of water supply infrastructures may affect distribution

The company Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo recommends that consumers in the cities of Maputo and Matola and the town of Boane use water rationally over the next forty-five days.

The recommendation follows the start yesterday, Tuesday, of the process of cleaning the water treatment centers and reservoirs in the Greater Maputo metropolitan region.

According to a company statement, this could affect around 20,000 customers supplied by the Umbelúzi water treatment plant.

The spokesman for Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo, João Francisco, reassures consumers that there won't necessarily be any restrictions on the water supply.

Francisco stresses that the cleaning of the Umbelúzi water treatment plant, distribution centers and reservoirs aims to guarantee water quality for the great Maputo.

The process of cleaning water supply infrastructures ends on August 23rd
