O The Global Peace Index has chosen the best countries to visit with low levels of crime, violence, corruption and more...
When you travel, there are very few things as important as feeling safe. And destination safety seems to be one of the most important and indispensable factors. You have to do everything you can to avoid having to worry about your well-being.
For all these reasons, it's always worth consulting the Global Peace Index, an annual ranking of the safest countries in the world drawn up by the Institute for Economics and Peace. The GPI ranks countries based on a wide range of factors, from levels of violence and crime to terrorism and international conflicts.
This year, the GPI has chosen Iceland. The country has topped the poll every year since 2008. Thanks to its low crime rates, but also low military spending and low rates of international conflict, Iceland is once again the safest country in the world.
Second on the list is Denmark, partly due to its low levels of government corruption, and third is Ireland, which has risen five places since the 2022 poll. Australia came 22nd, the UK 37th and the USA 131st.
Here are the ten safest countries in the world right now, according to the Global Peace Index: Iceland, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Singapore, Portugal, Slovenia, Japan and Switzerland.
