The XV Meeting of the Mozambique/Malawi Joint Defense and Security Commission kicks off in Blantyre

Today, in Blantyre, Malawi, the fifteenth meeting of the Permanent Joint Commission on Defense and Security kicks off to improve bilateral cooperation between Mozambique and Malawi in the fight against cross-border crime.

The meeting, which brings together defense and security officials from the two countries, aims to identify new action strategies to respond to the current security challenges facing the two neighboring countries, according to RM.

The terrorist practices that persist in some parts of Cabo Delgado province are on the agenda proposed by Mozambique and the Malawian counterpart is focused on tightening the siege against illegal immigrants and human trafficking.

The ministerial meeting will be co-chaired by the Mozambican ministers of national defense Cristóvão Chume and interior, Arsénia Massingue, and Malawi's minister of internal security, Ken Zikhale Ngoma.

In the city of Blantyre, the parties will also assess the degree of implementation of the decisions taken at last year's fourteenth session in Maputo on defense, public security and state security.

For Mozambique's high commissioner to Malawi, Elias Zimba, the existence of this joint defense and security committee and the holding of permanent meetings is crucial for the security of the two states, given the multifaceted events that jeopardize the security of the two countries.

The three-day meeting begins with a technical meeting, the adoption of activity plans to be implemented from now on, among other issues that affect the security and defense of these two southern African countries. (RM)
