Manica province's exports reached 32 million dollars in 2022, compared to 31 million dollars in 2021. Of this amount, seven million dollars came from fruit exports, according to figures from the Provincial Directorate for Industry and Trade.
"Our challenge is to empower fruit producers so that they master improved agricultural techniques, guarantee the quality of their products and can integrate export quotas and diversify the market," said Manica's provincial director of Industry and Commerce, Maria de Assunção Fernandes, quoted by the news portal Profile.
According to the source, the province currently exports avocados, macadamias, lychees, mangoes, fertilizers, precious stones, gold, bauxite and marble, among other agricultural, natural and mineral resources, which have contributed significantly to the growth of the province's and the country's economy.
Maria Fernandes also said that the products are exported to 18 countries, with the bulk going to Zimbabwe, China, South Africa, the United Kingdom, England, the United Arab Emirates and Botswana.
"We want to organize forums to attract investors to bet on the construction of processing industries," she said.
Maria Fernandes also said that one of the relevant activities in the sector's Economic and Social Plan (PES) for 2022 was the legalization of reserves for industrial parks. She added that agricultural marketing is flowing normally, with maize being sold at 16 meticais per kilogram, unlike 2022 when there were difficulties in setting the price of this cereal, which remained at seven meticais.
For the director, these results are the result of efforts and meetings to raise awareness among farmers, traders and technicians.
Overall agricultural production last year was 1.36 million tons of various agricultural products, with corn contributing 700 tons
