The national flag carrier, LAM - Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique S.A., will start flights on June 30 between Maputo and Lusaka (Zambia), with a stopover in Harare (Zimbabwe), in a bid to strengthen ties between neighboring countries and promote regional connectivity.
The start of flights to Lusaka is part of the strategy to include the capitals of southern African countries in LAM's destinations.
In this region, the company currently operates flights between Maputo and Johannesburg, as well as Maputo and Harare, in addition to Pemba and Dar es Salaam.
The addition of flights will increase travel options for passengers, eliminating the need for long stopovers or indirect routes between countries.
It will also promote tourism, trade and cooperation between the countries, boosting economic development and strengthening ties between the region's capitals.
"We are excited to facilitate travel and contribute to the growth of Southern African connectivity and believe that the new route will bring mutual benefits to Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe while providing another option for passengers in our region."
The flights will take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing Maputo at 12:30 pm and arriving in Lusaka at 3:50 pm.
From Lusaka, the flights will leave at 4:30 pm, with arrivals in Maputo scheduled for 7:50 pm.
The new route will be operated using Embraer aircraft.
