A young woman died after being trapped inside a burning home in the US state of Wisconsin on her wedding day.
According to Notícias ao Minuto, 19-year-old Paige Ruddy was sleeping on the second floor of a house in Reedsburg when flames broke out in the building on Tuesday. The tragedy happened in the early hours of the morning, at 4:00 am.
The house didn't have a fire alarm system, so when Ruddy realized what was going on she couldn't escape. The young woman lived in the house with her fiancé and her grandparents, and it is not known whether they were at home at the time of the incident.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they broke the second floor window to reach the young woman, who ended up dying a day later in hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage caused by smoke inhalation.
According to the family, Paige had exchanged marriage vows with Logan Mitchell-Carter, the love of her life, on Monday in a private civil ceremony. The couple would walk down the aisle the following day in the presence of friends and family.
The police have said that they are already investigating the cause of the fire, but they have ruled out the possibility that it was planned.
