A police officer from the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and a school guard in the city of Quelimane, Zambezia province, have been accused of stealing a computer used for voter registration.
According to Rádio Moçambique (RM), the theft took place on Thursday night. This is the second voter registration computer stolen this month in Zambézia. So far, the mobile phones stolen in Morrumbala and Quelimane have not been found.
Sidney Lonzo, spokesman for the PRM, said that investigations are underway to identify other perpetrators, "and we hope to recover these mobiles".
"It's clear that the instruction given to our colleagues on a regular basis is strict compliance with the security of this electoral material and at some point they are aware of their responsibilities if any material is stolen," he said.
