The Minister of the Interior, Arsénia Massingue, said today in Maputo that the country does not have the capacity to create an anti-muggling brigade and that it is counting on help from other countries to do so.
"What we're doing internally to prevent this type of legal crime from occurring is to form an anti-kidnapping squad. The selection has already been made, but it's a very sensitive process. We don't have the capacity internally. We're working with external partners to be able to form this brigade very quickly," he said.
The Minister was speaking today in Maputo, as part of the celebrations for the 48th anniversary of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique.
The creation of an anti-mumps brigade was announced by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, during the State of the Nation report in 2020.
On the occasion, Massingue called on police officers to refrain from corrupt practices that tarnish the corporation and discourage honest police officers. "We want a police force committed to the cause of the people," she said, quoted by RM.
This morning, Arsénia Massingue led a swearing-in ceremony for PRM agents in the Rapid Intervention Unit.
