Coordination between institutions is helping to reduce poaching in Mozambique, an official source said
According to Jorge Fernando, director of the Protection and Inspection Services at the National Administration of Conservation Areas, the biodiversity inspection and protection units, justice administration bodies and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique are exerting pressure on those who practice and finance poaching.
The source quoted by RM said that 171 poaching incursions were recorded in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park in 2021, compared to 52 last year.
According to last year's data from the National Administration of Conservation Areas, ANAC, 230 poachers were arrested between 2016 and 2022 in the Zinave National Park in Inhambane province alone.
Jorge Fernando was speaking this Tuesday on the sidelines of the training of judges in wildlife crime, which is taking place in the town of Ponta d'Ouro, in Matutuíne, Maputo province.
