American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez will star in the next big action movie on the Netflix streaming platform, entitled "The Mother".

The film was supposed to be released last year, but current forecasts indicate that it will hit screens as early as May 12th, not least because Netflix released the trailer for "The Mother" this Tuesday.

The Netflix original action thriller is directed by Niki Caro, who recently directed Disney's live-action Mulan remake.

The film is a "rare combination of high-octane action and genuine emotion," said Director Niki Caro, adding that "Jennifer a brings her legendary skill and precision to the action elements, but also her strength as a dramatic actress and her experience as a mother right to the center of the film."

"Years ago, a deadly assassin was forced to flee, which forced her to give up her only daughter. Years later, the killer returns to protect her daughter from some extremely dangerous men," he said.

The trailer gives viewers an extended look at what to expect from the action drama, which looks like a non-stop thrill ride. Lopez plays a mother tasked with doing whatever it takes to protect her daughter, whom she was forced to leave behind as a child. While J. Lo may be known for her romantic comedies lately, the trailer shows the actress returning to her action roots, just like in the movie.
