The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) arrested a lawyer, identified as P. Lourenço, on Thursday (06) in the city of Beira, Sofala province, on charges of bribery to make a case disappear.
The lawyer was arrested in possession of 100,000 meticias in order to hinder the proceedings, destroy the arrest warrant and the case in which the defendant F. V. Augusto was constituted, writes the News. Augusto has been indicted for the crime of fraud by defrauding.
SERNIC revealed that in the operation to arrest the lawyer, documents such as his lawyer's license, his identity card and the hundred thousand meticais in bribes were seized.
SERNIC's spokesman in Sofala, Alfeu Sitoe, without confirming the episode, assured, however, that steps are being taken to clarify the case.
The Sofala Bar Association has announced that the lawyer is being held at the 2nd Police Station, in the Ponta-Gêa district, on charges of corruption. Some of his colleagues are already attending to him.
