The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)) of the African Union (AU) called yesterday for the "support" of the international community to combat the outbreaks of cholera in Mozambique and Malawi, recently aggravated by the impacts of tropical cyclone Freddy.
"The health and social infrastructures of Mozambique and Malawi have been damaged. We call on all those with the capacity to help to cooperate with these countries to restore normalcy," said the CDC's acting director for Africa, Ahmed Ogwell, in an online press conference.
"The responses (in these two African nations) require a humanitarian approach," added Ogwell, who stressed the need to ensure the supply of drinking water, proper disposal of human waste and inter-regional communications, among other urgent measures. (Online news).
