Açucareira de Xinavane, in the Manhiça district of Maputo province, has announced the suspension of sugar exports for a period of two months, which can be extended.
The announcement comes at a time when some sugar production units are at a standstill due to flooding in the cane fields.
The interruption in the sale of the product on the international market is due to the difficulty of transporting it by rail to the port of Maputo, due to the limited operation of the Limpopo line, writes Notícias online quoting Rádio Moçambique,
The data was provided by the head of Corporate Affairs at Açucareira de Xinavane, Sónia Matsinhe, who explained that the suspension of sugar exports is also aimed at guaranteeing availability on the domestic market.
It should be noted that due to the floods, the Xinavane sugar factory lost around two thousand hectares of sugar cane, part of which belonged to small farmers.
