The Mozambican government is channeling forty thousand liters of fuel to Malawi in response to an appeal launched by President Lazarus Chakwera, due to the passage of Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which devastated the southern part of the country and killed 438 people.
The official delivery of the fuel will be made by Mozambique's high commissioner to Malawi, Elias Zimba, representing President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.
According to Rádio Moçambique, the fuel is expected to boost rescue operations for 238 people who are still missing.
Although the cyclone also devastated Mozambique, President Nyusi extended a hand of solidarity to the Malawian people, who are mourning the 438 souls who died and the more than 345,000 people who lost everything, including their roofs.
For Mozambique's high commissioner in Malawi, Elias Zimba, Filipe Nyusi's gesture demonstrates brotherhood and friendship between African peoples, who at times of catastrophe need to join forces to alleviate the impact of natural disasters.
