Edson da Luz, better known as Azagaia in artistic life, lost his life this Thursday (09.03), according to the Mozambican press. However, the causes of the death of this man who is considered one of Mozambique's most influential hip-hop artists are not yet known.
According to Canal Moz, "the musician died at home in circumstances that have yet to be clarified". Some press and social media reported that Azagaia had suffered a domestic accident
Azagaia was born on May 6, 1984 in Namaacha, Mozambique. He was known for his social intervention music. Audiences applauded him for his "courage" in singing songs denouncing "the truth", despite the "persecution" he suffered from the political powers.
Speaking to the Lusa news agency, the Mozambican Minister of Culture, Eldevina Materula, said she was "extremely shocked" by the news of Azagaia's death.
"Without a doubt, Mozambican music and culture are in mourning. The world has lost a unique rapper," said Materula.
Demonstrations are visible at various levels, including through social networks.
