Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and MISAU sign memorandum of understanding

Agência Espanhola de Cooperação Internacional e MISAU assinam memorando de entendimento

A memorandum of understanding was signed in Maputo between the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Ministry of Health (MISAU).

According to a statement released to MZNews, the agreement will consolidate and continue collaboration in priority areas such as primary care, training in medical specialties, the exchange of experiences between professionals and access to health resources for Mozambican citizens through support for the Common Health Fund (PROSAUDE).

The Secretary of State for International Cooperation (SECI), Pilar Cancela Rodríguez, also wanted to show Spain's support for research projects such as the one developed by the Manhiça Health Research Center, because she believes that "without health there can be no development", and this continues to be the main objective in Mozambique".

This is SECI's first visit to Mozambique after the approval of the Law on Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Global Solidarity, which intensifies the relationship between the two countries in the field of development cooperation, which began in the 1980s and was strengthened again in 2021, through the signing of a new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) that remains in force until 2024.

"Spain has always been at Mozambique's side, but especially in the most complicated moments of cyclones, or in the field of research," said Pilar Cancela when presenting the book "40 years of Spain-Mozambique cooperation" together with Mozambique's Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves.

In Maputo, Cancela was able to visit the project "Contributing to the right to the city: access to tenure, services and resilient infrastructure in Chamanculo", which facilitates and improves the lives of women from 239 families. He was also presented with the project of the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa, an important catalyst for climate action, which has the political commitment of more than 293 local governments.
