On Wednesday, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic (Greece), Nikos Dendias, officially handed over a monetary donation from the Greek government to Mozambique's Secretary of State for Youth and Employment (SEJE) to support vocational training and job creation for young people in the Cabo Delgado province, which has been affected by terrorism.

According to the Secretary of State for Youth and Employment, Oswaldo Petersburgo, the support from Greece will benefit around 250 young people from Cabo Delgado province and will be allocated to technical vocational training scholarships at the Alberto Cassimo Institute for Vocational Training and Labor Studies (IFPELAC), an institution run by SEJE.

The donation took place as part of a working visit to Mozambique by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic (Greece), Nikos Dendias, accompanied by a delegation of diplomats from the Greek government.

During the visit, Nikos Dendias held bilateral meetings with Mozambican authorities, with the aim of strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between the two countries. As well as handing over the donation, the visit was marked by the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, an important step in consolidating this relationship, institutionalizing the process through reciprocal visits at political and diplomatic level, for the sake of economic and social development.

The Greek delegation also visited the European Union Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM-Moz), of which Greece is a member and has been contributing in Mozambique since April 2022 by training the FADM Special Forces at the Dongo military training center in Manica province.

At the end of the meeting with the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, the Greek Foreign Minister guaranteed continued support for Mozambique and hoped that this small step would lead to bigger things.

On the occasion, the Consul General of Greece in Mozambique, Gerasimos Marketos, said that it had been a productive visit that had served to strengthen the bonds of cooperation and friendship. He pointed out that bilateral cooperation between the two countries had been reviewed and there was a mutual desire for new initiatives that would contribute to the development of bilateral relations, as well as in the context of cooperation with the European Union, which plans to organize a Mozambique-European Union Business Forum 2023, together with EuroCam (Association of European Entrepreneurs in Mozambique), of which the Mozambique-Greece Chamber of Commerce (CCGREMO) is Vice-President, and which will prepare a delegation of Greek companies from various sectors with a particular focus on Tourism, Agriculture, Maritime Transport and Renewable Energies.
