This Tuesday, Brazil's Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) asked the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) to block the assets of former President Jair Bolsonaro, including the ousted governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, and the former Secretary of Security of the Federal District, Anderson Torres.
The reason for the request made by the Deputy Attorney General of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Lucas Rocha Furtado, has to do with the invasion of the Palace of the Three Powers in the country's capital, Brasilia, according to the international press.
"Due to the process of Accountability and the vandalism that occurred in the Federal District on January 8, 2023, which caused countless losses to the federal treasury, I request that the assets of Mr. Jair Messias Bolsonaro, former President of the Republic, Mr. Ibaneis Rocha, the ousted Governor of the Federal District, as well as Mr. Anderson Torres, exonerated Secretary of Security of the Federal District, be decreed unavailable. Jair Messias Bolsonaro, former president of the Republic, the ousted governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, as well as Mr. Anderson Torres, exonerated secretary of security of the Federal District, as well as other responsible parties, especially the financiers of the aforementioned illegal acts," reads Furtado's order, quoted by G1 Globo.
The same source says that if it is proven that public officials were involved in the "terrorist" acts, they will be ordered to pay the state's coffers for the damages. They also risk being banned from holding public office for eight years.
On Sunday (08), thousands of radical protesters invaded and caused serious damage to the seats of parliament, the presidency and the Supreme Court for four hours, until they were dispersed by the security forces.
