Access to Twitter was interrupted this morning for some users who were unable to log in to the social network or consult certain accounts.
The Downdetector website has identified up to ten thousand reports of users having problems using Twitter, with a peak around 00:35.
Journalists from the France-Presse news agency (AFP) in the United States and Asia reported having difficulty accessing the platform's accounts.
The technical failure comes at a sensitive time for Twitter, which has been in turmoil since it was bought at the end of October by Elon Musk. The entrepreneur has laid off several employees, including the social network's technical maintenance staff.
Outside the United States, the number of users who were unable to access Twitter ranged from a few hundred to several thousand, according to AFP and quoted by Lusa.
According to DownDetector, the outage mainly affected Twitter users who accessed the platform via a web page. Around 10% of the complaints registered concerned users of mobile applications.
The cause of the outages is not yet known, but according to the NetBlocks observatory, these are international outages and "not linked to domestic internet disruption or filtering".
