President announces creation of a consultation group on the relevance of district elections

Presidente da República anuncia criação de grupo de consulta sobre a pertinência das eleições distritais

The President of the Republic announced yesterday that a consultative group will be set up next year to analyze the relevance of holding district elections, scheduled for 2024.

Filipe Nyusi explained that the consultative group will involve different sensitivities from civil society and should produce a document to be submitted for consideration by Parliament.

In his annual report on the General State of the Nation, the Head of State said that decentralization is still an irreversible process in the country.

Lasting around two hours, the report presented by the President of the Republic took an X-ray of the progress, constraints, challenges of this year and prospects for 2023.

Filipe Nyusi also spoke about the process of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of former Renamo guerrillas and said that the parties are studying a sustainable model for setting up a pension for this group.

Fighting corruption is another issue highlighted in the President's Report.

Filipe Nyusi said it was worrying that corruption cases were on the rise.
