Festive Season: EDM Strengthens Operating Capacity

Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has just reinforced its operational capacity to guarantee power supply during the festive season and respond to any unforeseen situations.

The information was given yesterday during the presentation of the level of readiness for this period by EDM spokesman Luís Amado.

The source also said that 1,200 Megawatts are available for an expected maximum consumption of 1,100 Megawatts.

"Allied to this generation we have our emergency centers spread throughout the country, ready to operate in case of any need," he said, quoted by Notícias.

As emergency power stations, he highlighted those in Pemba, Lichinga, Cuamba and Nacala, in the north; Chipanga, Mavuzi, Beira and Temane, in the center; and those in Inhambane, Xai-Xai, the Maputo Thermoelectric Power Station, Gigawatt and Kuvaninga, in the south.

In the transportation network, EDM corrected all the points considered weak and likely to cause problems in the event of an overload, such as the rehabilitation of the 220 Kilowatt (Kw) Matambo-Chibata line, the main line in the Centro system.
