A total of 658 people lost their lives in the first nine months of this year and another 1,418 were injured as a result of 679 traffic accidents on the country's roads.
These figures mean that, on average, more than two people die every day as a result of road accidents, which should worry everyone because, according to the authorities in the sector, this is not a normal situation.
The information was provided on Thursday in Maputo by the Minister of Transport and Communications (MTC), Mateus Magala, at the opening of the institution's XL Coordinating Council, recognizing that, in terms of road safety, the country is going through a critical moment, characterized by violent road accidents.
In this context, the government has defined road safety as a top priority in order to curb "road terrorism", and it is necessary to mobilize all the living forces of society to reverse this dark situation.
