The Assembly of the Republic has just approved, in general and special terms, its proposed program of activities for the year 2023.

The vote was not consensual. Frelimo voted in favor with 152, against 38 abstentions from the Renamo and Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM) benches.

In its explanation of vote, the Frelimo caucus justified its approval by recognizing that the program will continue with actions aimed at developing the Casa do Povo, as well as taking into account the parliament's needs and priorities.

Renamo explained that its abstention was due to the fact that the document did not contain exhaustive elements that would guarantee that MPs could properly listen to the electorate.

The MDM, meanwhile, spoke of the lack of transparency in the process of contracting goods and services for the Assembly of the Republic.

It should be noted that the Assembly of the Republic (AR) will spend three billion, one hundred and sixty-three million Meticais to carry out its program of activities for the year 2023.
