After a long period of waiting, Mozambique Telecom (TMCEL) workers have finally started to receive their overdue salaries. The payment of overdue salaries began last Friday, and some of the mobile phone operator's employees have already been paid.
According to information provided by "Carta", which quotes Lusa, the salary payment process was completed yesterday afternoon and the mobile phone company paid the salaries for October and November.
This information, according to the source, was provided by TMCEL's Executive Director, Mário Albino, and confirmed by the workers. Mário Albino also guaranteed that TMCEL already has the money to pay December's wages.
It should be noted that TMCEL has had to resort to money from the Treasury to settle its wage debts, after having demonstrated its inability to do so with its own revenues. It is well known that the company is mired in an unprecedented financial crisis and the government says it is still studying the best course of action for the public company.
