Mozambique condemns the war between Russia and Ukraine despite remaining neutral at the united nations voting table and is better positioned to promote dialogue between the two warring countries, according to the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
Cited by plataformamediaNyusi justified the neutrality strategy with the perspective of creating space for dialogue based on trust.
"The two countries cooperate and work with Mozambique and therefore we are in a better position to opine," said the PR, who acknowledged the negative impact of the war on Mozambique and Africa.
Nyusi assumed the fact that the country is on the side of those who strive for dialogue, so he does not agree with violence.
"We want to be in a situation to encourage dialogue, but we could not do that if we had taken a position," Filipe Nyusi stressed, in the belief that Mozambique's international partners respected the decision of neutrality.
The PR was speaking today in the city of Helsinki, during a press conference next to the Finnish head of state, Sauli Niinistö, with whom he met today as part of the working visit he has been making to Finland since Tuesday.
"We, as Mozambique, are not in favor of war. The wars that we had in Mozambique were a lesson and they only ended after dialogue based on trust," said Filipe Nyusi, adding that the country is already available to join the negotiating table between Kiev and Moscow.
Mozambique was among the countries that abstained on three resolutions that went to a vote in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Filipe Nyusi's visit to Finland will last four days and, in addition to meetings with his Finnish counterpart, the Mozambican head of state will visit economic enterprises and also participate in a business seminar.
