COP27: Joe Biden goes to Egypt to present environmental investment plan

COP27: Joe Biden vai ao Egito apresentar plano de investimento ambiental

US President Joe Biden is traveling to Egypt on Friday to defend his ambitious plan to combat climate change, which includes investing 369 billion dollars in clean energy.

The plan, which involves the largest investment in the US environment and aims to reduce emissions by 40% by 2030, has received criticism from some European ministers, who fear that the tax incentives will put European car companies at a disadvantage.

Specifically, the law offers tax incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles as long as they are produced in the US and their components are also produced in the US.

A government official assured us that the White House is aware of the Europeans' concerns and that a working group bringing the two sides together will meet again this week, following a meeting last week.

After Egypt, Biden will travel to Cambodia to take part in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting on November 12 and 13, and then to Bali, Indonesia, for the G20 summit on November 15 and 16. (Lusa)
