The Magistrates of the Public Ministry (MP) are angry with the current remuneration system, based on the controversial Single Salary Table (TSU) and are demanding meetings with the President of the Republic, warning that if the dialogue fails, they may resort to a general strike.
Through a press release, the class says that a large proportion of magistrates have been disadvantaged by the new remuneration system.
"There is a serious imbalance in remuneration within the career between the top category and the other categories, defrauding the principle of balance and fairness in salaries propagated by the government itself," reads the statement quoted by VOA.
The magistrates say that the scale does not respect professional categories, contains "serious unbalance in salary between magistrates who hold senior positions and the others," and even among those who hold senior positions in bodies of equal rank "there is disparity in remuneration and perks for no apparent reason."
"With the TSU, the generality of magistrates who do not hold senior positions will live forever on the adjustment allowance since their salaries have been diminished," the magistrates warn.
To solve the problem, the class demands urgent meetings with the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, "in order to share the concerns and request an intervention to repair the injustices, illegalities and unconstitutionalities committed," and they admit to resorting to "paralyzing activities on a national scale" if the dialogue does not work.
While seeking to exhaust the dialogue with the Government, the magistrates are advancing some judicial measures to suspend the implementation of the new remuneration model.
One of them is a request to be sent to the Constitutional Council for a declaration of unconstitutionality of the decrees of the Council of Ministers that created the TSU "starting with an injunction".
Asked about the threat from the magistrates, the spokesman for the Council of Ministers, Filimão Suaze, did not want to elaborate and said that there is a specialized commission that is analyzing all the complaints.
It should be noted that several professional categories have complained about the TSU and doctors have already announced a strike to begin on Monday, the 7th.
