Boeing's losses worsen to 4.37 billion through September

Prejuízos da Boeing agravam-se para 4.370 milhões até Setembro

US aircraft manufacturer Boeing announced that in the first nine months of this year it made a loss of $4,390 million, which it attributed to its defense business.

Between January and September 2021, the Chicago-based company had posted losses of $126 million.

In the first nine months of this year, Boeing invoiced $46,628 million, down 2% year-on-year.

"Our revenues and profits have been greatly affected by losses from fixed-price development programs in our defense business," company leader David Calhoun said in a statement quoted by the Economic newspaper.

Boeing had already flagged losses of over $1 billion on the contract for a new Air Force One, the plane used by the president of the United States, which was negotiated during Donald Trump's presidency.

In the third quarter, the one most followed by investors on Wall Street, the company posted a loss of $3,308 million, which is $3,176 million more than it had lost between July and September last year. Revenues increased 4% in the last three months and reached $15,956 million.

In commercial aviation, Boeing posted a third quarter loss of $643 million, down from its $693 million loss in the same period of 2021.
