The Cabo Delgado government yesterday inaugurated a new village for 105 families removed from the ruby mining perimeter by Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM), a company source announced.

The new village and associated agricultural land, located in Namanhumbir, is budgeted at 10 million dollars, covering an area of 2,400 hectares, near the Pemba-Montepuez road, says the MRM statement, quoted by Lusa.

In addition to the houses and other sanitation infrastructure, the project also included the construction of an elementary school, market, church, mosque, administrative building, and police station.

MRM has also built a vocational training center, which plans to train 2,100 local men and women with certified skills in construction, plumbing, electrical installation, and painting.
