Elections in Angola. Provisional results give advantage to MPLA, but other... "data" indicate otherwise

Eleições em Angola. Resultados provisórios dão vantagem ao MPLA, mas outros… “dados” indicam o contrário

So far, according to data released by the National Elections Commission (CNE) the MPLA party led by current President João Lourenço, leads the vote count with over 60% , but "other"...data shows an advantage for UNITA.

The results were announced in the early hours of today and correspond to a count of 30%, according to Lucas Quilundo, spokesman for the CNE, quoted by Televisão Publica de Angola, TPA.

For his part, the number two on the lists of the National Union for Total Independence of Angola, Abel Chivukuvuku, said that the provisional data collected from Wednesday's elections pointed in the opposite direction, to a victory of the party.

"Our polling centers [give] clear provisional indicators of a tendency of victory for UNITA in all provinces of our country," Chivukuvuku said at a press conference.

The international observers, from various institutions, present in Angola are meeting today and will then release a report on how the elections went.
