LeBron James will become the highest paid basketball player in NBA history, with total earnings worth $532 million. The guarantee was given by the player's manager, Rich Paul, in statements given to the American television "ESPN"on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old athlete has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers to extend his contract, worth $97.1 million. Numbers that allow him to surpass another reference of the sport, the athlete Kevin Durant.
James' salary will start at $46.7 million annually, increasing by $5% in the 2023/24 season. The contract extension is valid for the next two seasons, with one more option, allowing the Lakers to avoid having the player leave the team "at zero cost" in less than a year, when his previous contract ended.
LeBron James has been an NBA champion on four occasions and 18 times was elected to the All-Star team, a group that each year brings together the best players of the season.
