The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) assured, today, that the deep water port in the city of Quelimane, Zambezia province is already ready for maritime navigation.
The investment that cost the CFM company about three million dollars in the last two years meets international standards for shipping, according to Miguel Matabel, who was speaking at a meeting with local and foreign businessmen.
"Right now the Port has a depth varying from four to five meters. The access channel also has a depth varying between six and seven meters. This beaconing means that the Port is ready to operate under internationally accepted safety conditions," explained Matabel.
Ships with a capacity of 10,000 gross tons will be able to dock at the port.
For their part, the businessmen want to see all the bureaucratic excesses for unloading goods at the Port eliminated.
"So if a high investment has already been made, I think it would be feasible to organize a sector that can handle said." "And it would also give the credibility for us to know that the problem is not with the CFMs, but with the complementary services in the process," the businessmen said.
The Governor of Zambezia said that the Port of Quelimane is not the most expensive, "and nor should it be.
