Twitter posts $270 million loss in Q2

Twitter regista prejuízo de 270 milhões de dólares no 2.º trimestre

Twitter had a $270 million loss in the second quarter, but made a $243.3 million profit in the first half, up 82% from the same period in 2021.

According to an announcement today by the US technology company quoted by Lusaa, its turnover between January and June was 2,377.6 million dollars, a rise of 6.8%, despite revenues having fallen by 1.16% in the second quarter to 1,176.7 million.

The publication of these results comes after a U.S. court specializing in commercial disputes ruled that the trial opposing Twitter and billionaire Elon Musk will run for five days in October.

Twitter has appealed to the Wilmington (Delaware)-based court after Musk announced his intention to break the deal announced last April to acquire Twitter for $44 billion.

The disappointing second quarter result was attributed to "headwinds" in the advertising sector, fears regarding the economic situation and also "uncertainty linked to Elon Musk's ongoing acquisition of Twitter," according to the released statement.

In the second quarter of 2021, Twitter had made a profit.

Following the publication of the results, Twitter shares retreated more than 2% in trading before the opening of the New York Stock Exchange.
