A study launched today by the National Council for the Fight against AIDS (CNCS), in Maputo, reveals that about 500 thousand people have abandoned antiretroviral treatment, in the last years, all over the country.
The Coordinator of the Planning Unit at the National AIDS Council, Ema Chuva says that two million people receive antiretroviral treatment in the country, of which 25% have been abandoning treatment.
Ema Chuva explained that socioeconomic issues, stigma, and discrimination are the main factors that lead to the abandonment of antiretroviral treatment.
