Last Minute: LAM plane veers off course mid-flight

An airplane of Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM), on its way from Nampula to Maputo, had to deviate from its route and land in Chimoio (Manica), due to bad weather (poor visibility).

"After the verification about bad weather at Maputo International Airport, where it should have made the landing, the aircraft 'operating flight TM1056' diverged to Beira Airport where, also, the bad weather did not favor the landing," explains a statement received this morning in our newsroom.

The document states that the landing at Chimoio Airport took place under the best conditions, and that at this moment "passengers and crew are well and receiving indications according to the procedures foreseen for situations of this kind".

Despite this situation, a flight from Chimoio to Maputo is expected to depart today, with the aircraft only needing to be fueled with JET A1. "Due to local limitations, the fuel in reference is being transported from the city of Beira."

LAM also informs that as a result of this event "some company flights are being rescheduled" while the aircraft is grounded.
