Chimuara will have Solar Power Plant valued at $43 million

The administrative post of Chimuara, in Zambezia province, will have a solar power plant valued at about 43 million dollars and will, in a first phase, produce 30 MegaWatt (MW), starting in 2024.

The project is being developed by SunMoz, a company formed by Checunda Investimentos, a Mozambican company, and Renewable Energy Services Africa (RESA) Limited, and, according to company sources, is already at a very advanced stage of implementation.

A source connected to the company that is quoted by Notícias said that the solar photovoltaic plant will produce up to 100 MegaWatt (MW) that should be injected into the National Energy Grid, through the Chimuara substation, owned by Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM).

The project is also expected to be able to supply the energy needs of at least 150,000 households in the region, while at the same time it will increase the proportion of green energy sources in the national power grid, thus reducing the country's overall carbon footprint.

The source further says that at this time, the process of finalizing the remaining activities is underway before the actual construction and eventual commissioning of the initial phase of the solar plant begins.
